Cuba is an island nation located in the Caribbean Sea, at the entrance to the Gulf of Mexico. Although Cuba does not share land borders with other countries, it has maritime boundaries with nations such as the United States, Mexico, the Bahamas, Jamaica, and Haiti.

The country has a total surface area of approximately 109,884 square kilometers, including its main island and numerous smaller islands and cays. Cuba’s river system is relatively short due to the island’s elongated shape and limestone geology. Among the most important rivers are the Cauto River, the longest in the country, as well as the Zaza and Sagua la Grande rivers, which are significant for agriculture and water management.

Cuba’s geography is diverse and includes plains, rolling hills, and several mountain ranges. The most prominent are the Sierra Maestra in the southeast, home to the country’s highest peak, Pico Turquino, and the Escambray Mountains in central Cuba. Much of the island consists of fertile lowlands suitable for agriculture, while the coastline features extensive beaches, mangroves, and coral reefs.

Administratively, Cuba is divided into 15 provinces and the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud. The country has a population of approximately 11 million people. Most inhabitants live in urban areas, with Havana, the capital and largest city, serving as the political, cultural, and economic center of the nation.
