Germany is a country located in Central Europe, positioned at the heart of the continent. It shares borders with nine nations: Denmark to the north; Poland and the Czech Republic to the east; Austria and Switzerland to the south; and France, Luxembourg, Belgium, and the Netherlands to the west. Covering an area of about 357,600 square kilometers, it is one of Europe’s largest countries both in size and influence.

Some of Germany’s most important rivers include the Rhine, which flows along part of the western border; the Elbe, running from the Czech Republic to the North Sea; and the Danube, which begins in Germany’s Black Forest and continues through multiple European countries.

The country’s geography is diverse: the north features lowlands and coastlines along the North and Baltic Seas, the central region consists of forests and rolling hills, and the south is dominated by the Bavarian Alps.

Germany is administratively divided into 16 federal states (Bundesländer), each with its own government and distinct regional identity. Its population is approximately 84 million people, making it the most populous country in the European Union. The combination of its strategic location, varied landscapes, and strong political structure makes Germany a key player in European affairs.
