Russia is the largest country in the world, spanning approximately 17.1 million square kilometers across Eastern Europe and northern Asia. Its vast territory gives it a unique geopolitical position, stretching from the Baltic region to the Pacific Ocean.

Russia shares land borders with numerous countries, including Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, China, Mongolia, and North Korea. It is also bordered by several major bodies of water, such as the Arctic Ocean to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the east.

The country is crossed by several major rivers that play crucial roles in transportation, energy, and regional development. Among the most important are the Volga, the longest river in Europe; the Yenisei; the Ob; and the Lena, all of which flow through the vast expanses of Siberia toward the Arctic.

Russia’s geography is highly diverse, featuring broad plains in the western regions, the Caucasus Mountains in the southwest, extensive Siberian ranges, frozen tundras in the far north, and immense taiga forests. This environmental variety leads to climates ranging from temperate continental to polar.

Administratively, Russia is composed of 89 federal subjects, including oblasts, republics, krais, autonomous districts, and federal cities such as Moscow and Saint Petersburg. These entities are organized into larger federal districts to improve governance across the country’s enormous landmass. Russia’s population stands at around 146 million people, making it one of the most populous nations in the world, with significant demographic differences between its more densely populated European regions and the sparsely inhabited territories of Siberia.

The map displays international borders and provincial boundaries but does not include labels for regions and cities.

You can download the map in A4 size and it can be used in the classroom or at home—for school assignments or personal projects.
