Chile is located in western South America, stretching along the Pacific coast between the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. It borders Peru to the north, Bolivia to the northeast, and Argentina to the east, and has an extensive coastline along the Pacific Ocean to the west. The country covers an area of approximately 756,000 square kilometers, making it one of the largest countries in South America by length, though relatively narrow in width.

Chile’s river system consists mainly of short rivers that flow from the Andes toward the Pacific Ocean. The most important rivers include the Biobío, the Maipo, the Maule, and the Loa, the longest river in the country, located in the arid north. These rivers are essential for agriculture, hydroelectric power, and water supply, especially in central Chile.

The geography of Chile is extremely diverse, characterized by deserts, fertile valleys, mountain ranges, volcanoes, and glaciers. The Atacama Desert in the north is one of the driest places on Earth, while central Chile features productive agricultural valleys. The southern regions are marked by fjords, forests, and ice fields. This diversity results in a wide range of climates, from desert to polar conditions.

Administratively, Chile is divided into 16 regions, which are further subdivided into provinces and communes. The country has a population of approximately 19.5 million people, with most residents living in urban areas, particularly in the metropolitan region of Santiago, while vast areas of the south remain sparsely populated.
