Finland is located in Northern Europe, in the Nordic region. It borders Sweden to the west, Norway to the northwest, and Russia to the east, and has a coastline along the Baltic Sea, including the Gulf of Bothnia and the Gulf of Finland. The country covers an area of approximately 338,400 square kilometers, making it one of the largest countries in Europe by land area.

Finland has an extensive network of rivers and lakes, closely linked to its glacial landscape. The most important rivers include the Kemijoki, the longest river entirely within Finland, the Tornio, which forms part of the border with Sweden, and the Kymijoki. These rivers are important for hydroelectric power, water management, and regional ecosystems.
