Belarus is a landlocked country in Eastern Europe, positioned strategically between major regional corridors. It shares borders with Russia to the east and northeast, Ukraine to the south, Poland to the west, and Lithuania and Latvia to the northwest. The country covers an area of approximately 207,600 square kilometers, making it one of the larger nations in the region.
Belarus is crossed by several important rivers, including the Dnieper, which flows from north to south before continuing into Ukraine, and the Berezina, one of its key tributaries. Other significant rivers include the Pripyat and the Neman, both essential for the country’s ecosystems and inland navigation. The geography is dominated by broad plains, gentle hills, dense forests, and numerous wetlands and lakes, all characteristic of its humid continental climate.

Administratively, Belarus is divided into six regions (oblasts), with the capital city, Minsk, holding a separate special status. The population is estimated at around 9.2 million people, with a high concentration in Minsk and other major urban centers such as Brest and Grodno. Its strategic location and mainly flat terrain have shaped its historical, economic, and cultural development.
